Studio LAR (founded by Ahryun Lee) is a contemporary ceramic art & design studio based in Munich, Germany. To contemplate the area between function and non-function, studio LAR’s objective is to create intriguing objects which breakdown the boundaries between craft, design and art.

Passion & work

Hi Ahryun! You recently got married (congrats!) and you’re busy with exhibitions. Can you call yourself lucky or is there a secret how to be successful in life?

/Ahryun/

Hi guys! There is also luck but the most important thing is to keep preparing yourself professionally, never stop creating your work. You never know when the opportunity comes to you, and if you didn’t have any work in stock you would not be able to present your work. So for me it’s really important to keep up myself busy while being part of different shows.

What was your dream job when you was a kid & why?

When I was young I wanted to be a painter. I love painting and drawings that’s why I decided to go to special art middle/high school in my young age.

What is a biggest challenge you face professionally?

Sometimes I miss my student time in College, once you left the College after graduation there is lots of things you have to think and discuss alone. A lot useful tutorial will be gone, no more regular professional advice for your work, so you have to criticize about your work rationally and also find the way where you can get some feedback.

Heh, for that we can recommend “Perfection” print by Renata Simone (link to the print). But let’s speak about inspiration. Name a person (dead or alive) you would invite for an inspirational Sunday lunch?

Thanks! Personally I would like to invite Joan Miró, as I really like his work and he is so inspirational. So I want to get to know in person what personality he has and what drives his creativity.

A question from creative family member, Marija Paupaite: “With what kind of smell would you associate cobalt blue color?”

Blue all the time reminds me of the ocean, it smells like a sea.
